When we place all our hope and trust in God we need not worry because we believe that He will provide. Throughout salvation history there is a litany of examples of how God provided for his people, from the message of the Prophets in the Old Testament to the coming of Christ and the proclamation of the Kingdom of God in the Gospels. God continues to provide for us today as well and He is always present with us on our walk of faith, even if sometimes we may not always recognise his presence.
In today’s Gospel reading we hear about John pointing the way to Jesus – the Lamb of God, the chosen one. ‘Look, there is the lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world’. During each Mass before we receive Holy Communion we say these words. In the Eucharist we receive the Lamb of God, the Body of Christ and welcome him into our hearts. Jesus is present too in the everyday encounters of our lives. He is present in those we meet in our homes, workplaces and communities; and especially in the poor, the marginalised, and those in need of our help. When we open our hearts and reach out in compassion and love to them, we are also meeting Jesus.
We can grow in friendship with Jesus by spending time with him and talking to him as we would with any friend. He invites us to come away from the busyness of our lives and to go into that quiet space so that we can be with Him. Jesus walks with us on every step of life’s journey. He always listens to our prayer and invites us to share our hopes, our concerns, our dreams with him.
