Prepare the way of the Lord

431464_3531700453869_1185412667_nWe are now approaching Christmas, a special time of rejoicing in our faith. Jesus is the reason for the season and the coming of the Messiah into the world helps us to see the infinite goodness of God and his closeness to us. During the last three weeks of Advent the liturgy of the Church has been focused upon preparing for the coming feast of the Nativity of our Lord, giving us an opportunity to take time out from the busyness of our lives to prepare with expectant hearts to welcome the Christ child with love and joy into our lives this Christmas. Jesus is the light of the world and his presence brings us light, hope, and love.

As we wait in joyful anticipation for the coming of our Saviour, it is appropriate to spend some time in prayer in the company of Mary, the mother of Jesus and our mother, reflecting on her role in the story of Christmas. When Mary received the news that she was to be the mother of Jesus she was filled with joy in God’s presence and and pondered his word in her heart. She placed her complete trust in God and her example helps us to prepare the way to embrace the joyful message of Christ’s coming in our hearts, giving thanks for the good which he has worked in our lives.
