The recent Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann which took place in Mullingar was a fantastic success. Fleadh 2022 was a homecoming event in the town where Comhaltas was founded in 1951 and a celebration of the very best of what it means to be Irish. The hosting of the Fleadh from 31st July to 7th August was delayed by 2 years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but the tremendous efforts of the local organising committee, Westmeath County Council, Mullingar Chamber and other stakeholders ensured that this year’s event was well worth the wait.
Fleadh 2022 with the wonderful involvement of over 1,000 volunteers was a joyful, invigorating, talent-filled event which showcased the very best of Irish music and culture. Our music, culture, language and traditions along with the gifts and talents of so many, young and old, deserve to be acknowledged and celebrated. Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann provides this platform.
Ní amháin an craic agus ceol, ach an teanga náisiúnta a bhíonn á céiliúradh i rith an fhéile seo chomh maith. Bhí mé hiontach sásta chun a bheith in ann tacaíocht a thabhairt do na foirne oibrithe deonacha a raibh lonnaithe ag an ionad eolas í lár an bhaile, agus ag an lárionad Gaeilge a d’eagraigh sceideal imeachtaí don seachtain ar fad. Thaithin sé go mór liom a bheith ag cuidiú, agus d’ardaigh sé mo chroí!
A short two minute vox pop report by Nuacht TG4, which I contributed to, gave an insight into this memorable week.
Ar aghaidh go Fleadh 2023!
